what to do if wrong weed and feed used on st. augustine

Incorrect Fertilizer on St. Augustine Thousand

Well I'm a dummy and used the wrong fall fertilizer on my St. Augustine yard (orange Scotts bag instead of the red one)...and at present of course my yard isn't doing neat. Any ideas on what I should put downward to endeavour and save information technology? Or should I simply put the right bag down and simply call it a day prior to winter?

What is in the orange Scotts bag?

May be more of a yellow but it's the winter guard that says don't apply on St Augustine in the fine print

I'one thousand guessing your best bet is to go out it alone and water the crap out of it

Definitely don't cascade anything else down. Water for a few weeks and pray.

Fault

I used their "safety for southern lawns" weed and feed this spring, and nearly lost my lawn (St Augustine). Took all summertime to come back. Will never bear on that stuff once again. In fact, I'thou done with Scotts. Going with Milorganite and/or other more than organic types of fertilizer.

Thanks guys, I didn't realize it for a week after I put it down and so may be too tardily, but will only keep watering

Calvin Finch, retired A&M horticulturist (and other reputable experts) in San Antonio, says to never use weed & feed. He says fertilizing and applying herbicide should be done separately. The timing is never the aforementioned. You could actually be fertilizing your weeds if done at wrong time.

I know this is not your question simply still applicable.

If you have not already watered information technology in, leaf blow every bit much as you tin. Might besides mow/handbag.

Not an expert in soil scientific discipline, simply I think information technology may exist the 2-iv-D that did it. I used some spray herbicide to get ride of the puncture-vine that is so rampant in San Angelo and I lost my St. Augustine too. The chief ingredient was the 2-iv-D. How to save information technology? I tin can non help you there.

Don't like the sound of that

Let it die
Dig it upwardly
Plant Bermuda
Turn a profit

2-iv-D is fine on St. Augustine for broadleaf weed control.

Look at a Lesco fertilizer high in North for St. Augustine at Home Depot or even better Siteone.

Quit using weed and feed products.

Why do folks however apply it? I idea this was pretty well known to be awful for turf lawns.

Weed and feed will eventually impale your plants like azaleas.

Seriously. Quit buying that garbage. Pre-emergent 2 weeks before your usual last freeze, again 90 days subsequently, and so the beginning calendar week of September. Dimension, Halts, or Balan granules. Fertilize April 1, June ane, Aug 1, October i. If you don't exam to run across your specific needs, then a three-i-ii ratio dull release is typically a good Texas lawn fertilizer to use.

This is basically the Neil Sperry playbook and information technology's done me right for 20+ years, bermuda (last house) and st augustine (current house)

People buy it because information technology's easy, and if they're selling information technology, information technology must work.

Aye I've bought for ease and simplicity...just this is what I get for not paying attending I guess

Day 1 of water the **** out of the yard consummate haha

My yard is a 50/fifty mix of Bermuda and st Augustine and use that. No problems at all

Why are so many against St Augustine? It feels peachy in the summer and looks good too.

doesnt experience equally not bad as walking on Bermuda. Nor does it look as good.

Mine is mixed likewise. In the shade, it'due south all St. Augustine, in the sunny areas, it transitions to Bermuda. I couldn't get Bermuda to grow in much of my yard.

My married woman (Texas Master Gardener) always said she would murder me, so divorce me if I e'er used weed and feed on our lawn.

And in parts of Texas where it isn't adjusted, it likes to detect creative means to die about 3 years later it's established.

St Augustine loves dappled shade and shouldn't require much maintenance in that environment. Total dominicus... good luck

Well seems like green grass is slowly starting to come out in well-nigh all of the burned spots, so think I'll exist expert longer term and will simply have a browner thousand than most prior to winter

I'll continue watering the hell out of information technology the next few weeks until information technology goes fallow, and I already bought fertilizer only for side by side season

Rip it out and plant Celebration Bermuda!! And it works swell for a chipping practice area for my sons golf game!! And and then the orange bag works!! Cut downwardly in betwixt 1/2 inch a nd a ane/iv inch!!

I find that a little fertilizer in St Augustine is pretty much all y'all need. One time it starts growing it chokes out whatever weeds. During the 2011 drought I just had two green runners in the back yard. A few weeks after niggling fertilizer and water information technology looked dandy.
